Meet Graham Smith-Bernal, owner of Newsells, as he walks us through his vision for the future of the Estate, including its thoroughbred race horses, the Fox & Hounds pub, and —most recently— his aspiration to make the finest English Sparkling wines, right here on our doorstep! The evening will include a Q&A as well as a glass of Newsells' English Sparkling Wine. Limited tickets available!

Barley Social Hub invites you to meet Graham Smith-Bernal, the owner of Newsells. As an existing client of Newsells prior to purchasing the Estate in 2021, Graham is passionate about every aspect of the Stud: the land, the devoted stud team and, of course, the horses. Breeding some of the finest racehorses in the world remains Graham's greatest passion and he will walk us through some of the ins and outs of the industry, its performance in the high-stakes game of horse racing and its reputation as one of Europe’ s premier studs.

Graham will also provide an update on Newsells’ exciting new wine-making venture. His aspiration? To produce the highest quality English Sparkling Wines, wines of a commensurate calibre and quality with the Newsells thoroughbreds. To achieve this, Graham has hired some of the best British talent in the winemaking industry. In 2022, the team set about planting 45,000 grape vines— a mix of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, the same grape varietals used to make Champagne. Newsells is the only vineyard to share its land and heritage with some of Britain’s greatest racehorse bloodstock. Highlighting this link, the wines have been named after several of the Stud’s legendary racehorses, including “Nathaniel", our Blanc de Blancs and "Shastye” our Classic Cuvée. Planning permission has recently been granted to build a state of the art Winery, and Graham will show us a CGI video of the facility. We will also learn about the Community Founder Membership program, designed specifically for members of the Newsells local community who love wine and want to be more involved in the Newsells World.
The talk will be followed by a Q&A session with Graham and the Newsells Team along with a glass of wine —the perfect opportunity to sample the sparkling wine!
