To celebrate the 75th birthday of Scotland’s greatest living composer, James Dillon, we present five fascinating concerts, presenting his works alongside other significant composers for comparison and contrast.
On May 25th: prize-winning young Greek pianist Angeliki Giannopoulou will play Dragonfly & Charm and works by Ravel, Mompou, Skalkottas, Bacewicz and Chopin. On June 15th, Jack Hancher will play Shrouded Mirrors and Sally Beamish’s Unquiet amid pieces from his recent, critically lauded CD of English music for guitar; on July 6th, the great Noriko Kawai, dedicatee of many of the composer’s piano works, will play The Book of Elements Volume 3 and the Scottish premiere of 'echo the angelus' alongside Debussy’s Estampes and Ravel’s Gaspard de la nuit. The Telyn Quartet will perform Dillon’s String Quartet No. 7 on September 21st in a recital also featuring Maconchy, Mozart and Ravel.
Finally, on October 10th, the new star of the violin, Mathilde Milwidsky will play excerpts from Traumwerk, Book 3 and pieces by Lutoslawski, Skalkottas, Bacewicz, Telemann, Mozart and Brahms.
