About Gardening for Biodiversity with Sally Morgan
Discover how to garden to encourage biodiversity with experienced no-dig, organic gardener and plant lover, Sally Morgan.
Sally studied Natural Sciences (botany) at Girton College, Cambridge. After a few years of researching the ecological restoration of quarries and then teaching, Sally established an environmental photo library and began writing articles and nonfiction books. To date, she has written over 250 books, primarily children’s nonfiction, on a wide range of subjects, including natural history, science and geography.
She is the former editor of Organic Farming Magazine, published by the Soil Association, and writes for magazines such as Living Earth, Bloom and Amateur Gardening, as well as other titles in the gardening and smallholder field.
Sally’s main focus is her 200-year-old walled garden, once the garden of a rectory. It spans approximately two-thirds of an acre and features a kitchen garden, orchard and a large ornamental area with an extensive water harvesting system, as well as herbaceous beds and gravel gardens. With climate change in mind, the plant selection prioritises climate-resilient species, biodiversity and permeability, while the beds are all heavily mulched to protect the soil.
The talk will last 45 minutes, followed by 15 minutes of Q&A at the end.
